FORCE ACADEMY SET FOR HIT-OUT WITH PREMIERS
The Emirates Western Force Academy will get some game time under their belts this weekend when they play a trial against reigning KWIK Senior Competition Premiers, Cottesloe, at Harvey Field on Saturday

COTTESLOE WIN RUGBYWA TENS TOURNAMENT
Congratulations to Cottesloe, victors in the Open Division of RugbyWA’s preseason Invitational tournament that was held at Harvey Field over the past weekend.
In a departure from previous years the preseason invitational tournament was held as a 10’s format rather than a 7’s format to increase the number and style of players participating in the tournament. The Open’s and U18’s divisions played on Saturday whilst the U20’s played on Sunday. Plenty of enterprising Rugby was played over the weekend which also saw selectors using the opportunity to look at some of the talent on offer for our upcoming State U20 side.
In all, 21 teams participated in the invitational tournament and RugbyWA would like to thank the clubs who supported the tournament.
RugbyWA would also like to thank the Cottesloe Rugby Club for the hard work they put in for hosting RugbyWA’s preseason invitational tournament.

TYRRELL TO MAKE HISTORY
Local rugby product Ryan Tyrrell will etch is name in Western Australian’s sporting history when he becomes the first player from the local competition to be included as part of the run-on side for a Super rugby match, this Sunday versus Queensland Reds.
Tyrrell, 26, a former loose forward was converted to the hooking role by Force coaching staff to improve his prospects at the next level. Having now earned a contract with the Force his debut against the Hurricanes in New Zealand was a long time coming (following several years in the academy) not so his call up to the starting 15 just 4 rounds into his professional career.
Pek Cowan will move to the bench after some shaky efforts with his throwing. While coach Mitchell will no doubt be looking for Ryan to improve the sides effectiveness at the line-outs.

Nedlands CSRFF Grant application fails

Important Building Update
09-03-2010
Hi Members
I am extremely disappointed to tell you that we have not received our CSRFF grant from the government announced last week.
After discussion with Clayton White (coordinator of the programme) from the Dept Sport & Rec his feedback as to why we missed out was as follows.
1. $17.5 million was handed out after $44 million in applications. Two very large projects from councils received over $5 million of the funding available.
2. In their opinion we did not have sufficient cash in the bank (or financial support from Nedlands council) to ensure our project could be completed without further fundraising and jeopardising the clubs financial viability.
3. The proposed areas of “social activity” and paved “viewing area” are seen as low priority for these funds – their emphasis is the toilets, change rooms, storage areas etc
4. We are not a truly “multi use” facility even though our plans are aimed at being able to be used as such. A possible permanent summer tenant other than tee ball would assist our application.

WHERE TO FROM HERE
We have different options available to us which will be discussed by the building committee and put to the club management committee in coming months.
There are options to use some or all of our cash put aside for the project and do partial work such as toilets and storage area. This would most likely eliminate the chance of getting a future CSRFF grant and could incur extra costs.
We can modify and reduce our approved plans and reduce the costs – proceed without govt funding possibly with small borrowing by the club.
Find a cash benefactor or raise at least $180k specifically for the project and proceed without govt funding.
Re apply in next years round putting the project back till Sept 2011 at best if we receive a grant. This option allows more time to fund raise however building costs continue to increase.
We will keep you informed
